The History of Baldwin High School
Baldwin (population 3,627) is located in southwestern Illinois in the north-central portion of Randolph County. Illinois Route 154 is the main roadway to and from Baldwin from the east and west. County Highway 1 is the north/south route to and from town. The Illinois Central Railroad passes through Baldwin running beside Route 154. Baldwin Lake is situated just northwest of town. Baldwin is about a 25 – 30 mile drive southeast of East St. Louis (as the crow flies).
We know very little about the town of Baldwin and its former high school. We know that the folks of the area established a school in 1874. We also know that the town of Baldwin was incorporated as a village in 1876. At this point we are in need of your assistance.
Baldwin High School did exist. Our best source is from a District Tournament basketball game record from the 1924-25 season. If you have any information you can share regarding Baldwin and its former high school, please contact us via the means listed at the bottom of this article.
The high school-aged kids of Baldwin attend Red Bud High School today.

We know only of Baldwin High School’s existence through research by our good friend Mark Jurenga. Mark located the results of a game played in the 1924-25 Belleville District Tournament in which the Baldwin High School boys lost the third place game to Brighton. Since basketball was offered, it is likely that baseball and track were offered as well. We are in need of the school’s team nickname, uniform colors, fight song, coach’s names, and season records.
