The History of Trivoli High School
Trivoli (population approximately 100) is located in north-central Illinois about 15 miles west of Peoria. The town is nestled in the southwest corner of Peoria County. Trivoli sits just south of Illinois Route 116 on Trivoli Road. The Chicago & Northwestern Railroad travels by the south side of town and was instrumental in its early establishment.
The history of Trivoli and its school system is in need of research. We believe that Trivoli residents had a school in place by the late 1800’s. We are told that the high school likely lasted through the early 1920’s when it was decided to close the high school and send the high school-aged children of Trivoli to nearby Farmington. Trivoli Grade School was used in some capacity, probably a K – 8 facility, through 1973. At that time a new school building was built in Farmington and the Trivoli building was closed for school purposes.
It is said that the Trivoli High School Alumni group were quite a loyal bunch, having Alumni Reunions through the 1980’s, possibly even into the 1990’s! The former Trivoli school building is now used as an apartment building in town.
