The History of Farina High School
Farina (population 558) is located in southern Illinois in southeastern Fayette County. The Illinois Routes of 185 and 37 intersect in town. Interstate Highway 57 passes by just east of town. The East Fork of the Kaskaskia River flows through town. The Illinois Central Gulf Railroad also passes through town.
The history of Farina and its high school prior to the merger into Farina LaGrove HS is in need of research. We know that the village of Farina supported a school system which included its own high school beginning in the late 1800s or early 1900s. We know that the Farina school district merged with the La Clede and Long Grove township school districts in 1942 (possibly earlier). This merger created the Farina LaGrove School District. The Farina LaGrove School District merged with the Kinmundy-Alma School District in 1990 to create Farina South Central School District.
The kids of Farina continue to attend school in Farina as part of the South Central School District. Any informaion about the history of the town of Farina and its former Farina High School is welcome.
